Scottish ClubSport partner with Support in Mind Scotland

Support in Mind Scotland have joined forces with Scottish ClubSport in an exciting new partnership aimed at promoting mental health and physical health.

Formerly known as the Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils (SALSC), Scottish ClubSport represents 3,000 sports clubs, organisations and individuals, across 52 different sports.

Scottish ClubSport has reached out to the charity to provide information and resources to their members, with a particular focus on the wave of mental health and wellbeing issues facing people as they navigate their way through the Covid-19 pandemic.

SiMS has more than 25 projects across Scotland and provides support and services to 1,300 people affected by mental illness, and the charity believes the new partnership will help encourage people to improve their physical health and fitness.

Gary Grieve, Scottish ClubSport’s National Development Manager added “At Scottish ClubSport, we understand the impact that Covid-19 has had on people’s mental health.

“We believe that by partnering with Support in Mind Scotland, we will be able to provide our local sports councils, community and sport clubs and volunteers with the necessary knowledge and resources to support their local members and clubs during this challenging time.

“Through this partnership, we hope to raise awareness of the benefits that physical activity and sport can have on a person’s wellbeing as well as the support that is available to anyone who may need it”

SiMS Community Partnership Officer, Iain Mitchell said “We look forward to introducing ourselves to the members of Scottish ClubSport and making them more aware of our work and the mental health support we offer local to them.

“The benefits that good physical health can have on someone’s mental health is well-known, so this is also a terrific opportunity to get more of our members involved and active within sports clubs. This is our latest commitment towards encouraging physical activity, following on from our signature fundraising initiative The 100 Streets Challenge, and we can’t wait to get started”

SiMS has nearly 50 years’ experience of supporting people with their mental health and runs drop-in mental health resources across Scotland, a National Information Service, a Mental Health & Money Advice Service, and convenes the National Rural Mental Health Forum.

Designed to expand the nature and delivery of the ClubSport and Sports Council network in Scotland, Scottish ClubSport undertakes the commitment to develop a national and local structure relevant to the sporting landscape of today, engaging local knowledge and empowering club sport networks to work together in partnership. The Scottish ClubSport network is designed to give sport at a local level the strongest voice possible when influencing local decision makers.
